Deborah Tranelli : A Lot of Livin' CD

See if you don't fall in love with Deborah Tranelli from the very first song. John Bucchino and Lindy Robbins's "Gentle Souls and Tenderhearted Fools" reveals the heart and intelligence of a cabaret singer, though her rich, beautiful voice can also belt (Bye Bye Birdie's "A Lot of Livin'") and swing (standards "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home," "The Way You Look Tonight," "It Was Written in the Stars"). Paul Rolnick (who produced and also contributed "Believe What You're Dreaming") and Bill Soden's "Like the Heavens Hold the Stars," Stephen Schwartz and Steven Lutvak's "Rewriting History," Bucchino's "I'm Not Waiting," and Carole King's "Home Again" are simply marvelous, warm showcases for Tranelli. Tranelli has come a long way since she played Bobby Ewing's faithful secretary Phyllis on Dallas, and this winning debut album proves it. - David Horiuchi
