This is the world premiere recording of Kirsten Childs’ musical, The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin. The show had its original run off-Broadway at the legendary Playwrights Horizons in 2000, and has since seen productions around the country. It is a totally original musical comedy. It’s a personal story with a social conscience written and composed by an African American woman. Add to that a score that brilliantly bridges the divide between pop and theater and you have a show that’s unique and extraordinary. Most of the original cast has been assembled for this recording, including the 2006 Tony Award Winning Best Actress for The Color Purple, LaChanze, as the lead character Viveca.
